祖父的奖学金

祖父一辈子

种田 种地

喂猪 养鸡

他做过长工

经历了土改

遭遇了武斗

却从未摸过笔 写过字

后来

一个新时代开始了

祖父种的菜

可以拿去换钱了

孙辈们

也进学堂准备面向世界和未来了

祖父也展眉了

他用卖菜的钱

奖励读书的娃

我从他手上

得到过巨奖

--- 一张十元的人民币（当时流通的最大面额纸币）

这笔奖学金

足够付我一学期学费

另加糖果好几袋

祖父的奖学金

曾让我们白天想 梦里见

直到今天

它像一根长鞭

轻轻敲打在我们身上

Grandfather  Scholarship

My grandfather’s whole life

was tied with the field and the livestock

He earned his life by growing rice and vegetables

And feeding pigs and raising chickens

He had worked as a long-term hired hand for the landlord

He experienced revolutionary change and land reforms

And he encountered the Great Cultural Revolution

But he had never gotten a chance to read and write

In the early 1980s

A new age started

Grandfather could get some money by

selling what he grew

and what he fed

And all his grandchildren

could go to school to prepare for their future

Grandfather’s face was finally relaxed

Grandfather was pleased with his life

And he wanted to encourage his grandchildren to study hard

with the money he had earned

I was rewarded with a terrific scholarship by my grandfather

---A ten-yuan RMB banknote (the maximum denomination banknote at that time)

This scholarship

is enough to pay off

my tuition for one semester

and to buy 

extra packets of my favorite candies

made us think about it during the day

and dream of it at night

It is like a long whip

tap us gently

up to now

游子和父母

在雨雪护送下

我回到父母身边

只为一次短暂的团聚

我的心 总在颤抖

我不知该如何做孩子

是给他们眼前的温暖

还是做他们脖颈的项链

而父母 却坚定地告诉我

他们只希望

我成为那只利箭

从他们手中射出

直中 我向往的靶心

Dream Chasing Child and the Left-Behind Parents

The snow and rain escorted me

back to my parent's home for a brief reunion

My heart is full of questions

I am wondering

how to be a good child

Should I provide the warmth of being around with my parents

Or should I be a gorgeous necklace around their necks

But my parents told me firmly

They hope merely that

I can become a piercing arrow

Which is shot from their hands

Can fly to the center of the target rightly

Where I want to be
